AUSTRIAN HOUSE

About

01 about

The Austrian House, designed by Rem Koolhaas, is an intervention on the countryside in Zell am See. It is defined by a monolithic block of white concrete, inhaling light from above, focusing the lake below and - with the exception of a one-way mirror and a loophole view - blinding out neighbourhood. It is squeezed in to the metamorphosis of the countryside, into a place where it should not sit. It is embedded in between.
